Book Read: REWORK
I'm in the midst of reading Rework by Jason Fried & David Heinemeier Hansson and find myself smiling over the words of wisdom. The advice from business owners Jason and David definitely catches you off guard. Is it really new-age thinking or are we finally being realistic?
"If you write a big plan, you'll most likely never look at it anyway...Give up on the guesswork. Decide what you're going to do this week, not this year",
"Learning from mistakes is overrated"
and "Workaholics aren't heroes. They don't save the day, they just use it up. The real hero is already home because she figured out a faster way to get things done.
Rework is filled with many little chapters that the authors based off their experiences and overall success in building their businesses. The short chapters make for an easy and fast read. However, you find yourself pondering over their words over and over because you can't help but enjoy the advice and feel motivated. You'll also love the quirky, comic book like chapter images ;-) I recommend this book if you are in need of some career inspiration and you one day want to do what you love for a living. Who doesn't? You don't need to be the biggest baddest business or have the top PR and marketing strategies to succeed; have passion, confidence, care, and a willingness to work.

Excerpts from Crush It! by Gary Vaynerchuk.
** The best marketing strategy ever: CARE.
** Everyone--EVERYONE--needs to start thinking of themselves as a brand. It is no longer an option; it is a necessity.
** Don't get obsessed with how many friends or fans are following you- the stats are only marginally important. What's important is the intensity of your community's engagement and interaction with you.
** Do you work for a company that allows you to have a public persona, either about your field or your true passion? ...In other words, are you allowed to have a blog, a Twitter account, or otherwise brand yourself in the public eye with an identity that is separate from the corporation? Some industries, like finances and law, do you love your field enough to make that sacrifice?
