Post Update- Gown Wow

Posted by Erica Espana

PhoebePrice_GrammysSo, had to share this piece of information.

I was looking through the Grammy's worst dressed list and saw this photo! If you read my previous post, Gown Wow, we featured this designer gown. I saw the dress at a fashion event and loved it. Truly a lovely piece in person, but I guess not so lovely on a person... Speaking of person, we met this actress at the fashion event as well. Her name is Phoebe Price and she was really sweet! She is also putting out her own line of hats and headpieces. I bet that flower piece is from her collection.

Anyways, such a shame the dress is featured on a fashion don' t list because it really was a work of art with amazing details, bead work, and a great back! I guess it's one of those dresses you have to try one to see if it looks good. I definitely don't want to be called an octopus on the red carpet!

I want to know your thoughts, take the poll below :)

What do you think of the designer gown?

Sparkle & Mini & under $30

Posted by Erica Espana

Anthropologie_clutchThree of my favorite things.

I love my products to be miniature and sparkly. You can call me the ultimate girly girl when it comes to accessories, especially clutches! While I usually find myself carrying an over sized purse because I like to carry everything but the kitchen sick, I would rather carry a clutch.  It keeps things simple and allows you to choose your everyday essentials without lugging around a bunch of other stuff! It gets kind of annoying when it takes 5 mins to find your keys or a piece of gum in your purse.

Furthermore, How adorable are these mini clutches from Anthropologie to the right?! They may be on the smaller side, but they are great for your make-up products in your over sized purse or used as a coin purse only (It's do-able!). They are handmade and come either with a jeweled owl, bumblebee, or elephant print. A fun steal at $28.00.

Another fun clutch is the Sequin Clutch below found at Forever 21. Forever 21 is known for its amazingly affordable prices and this is no let down for $19.80. I'm all about steals, in case you haven't noticed from my blog posts. This size allows you to carry more and perfect for a night out on the town.

And of course, always check out Etsy for unique and handmade pieces. Etsy is a site where you can buy and sell your very own handmade pieces. Support your fellow peers! This little number for $22.00 is great for your necessities and comes in handy when you need a little touch up. The inside features a mirror and chic red interior.

Love is in the air!

Posted by Erica Espana

Happy February 2010! The days are truly flying by and it seems everyone is so busy these days. February is among us and its time to stop and smell the roses! With the superfluous amount of Valentine decor in store displays, jewelry commercials, and talk about love, it gets you thinking. Whether you're single or taken, here are two little gifts that will truly steal your heart.

Love Key Chain

If you're a Sex and the City fan, you will instantly recognize this Love Key Chain from the movie. Carrie's assistant passes on her "love" to Carrie to remind her that love is always with her and one day when the time is right she will find her match. Such a great reminder and even cuter way to highlight your keys! HBO's SATC section features this 18K gold plated key chain for $69.99. Also, found on Seen On!'s site for $25.oo.

Calendar Necklace

As for this second item, it is truly a gem. A bride I recently worked with was wearing this necklace and I had to ask where she bought it. It is the Calendar Necklace by Dalla Nonna Jewelry. Her mom bought it for her to commemorate her upcoming wedding. So thoughtful and creative. Perfect for an anniversary, birthday, wedding, engagement, in honor of a loved one, or date that has great meaning to you. On the date, a choice of color sapphire is placed. Ranges from silver to rose gold ($150-$400).

Ja'toi and I visited Em&Co, a Los Angeles boutique featuring high end fashion clothing and accessories. We've been a couple of times before and love the fact that they have great trunk shows and feature emerging LA designers. We always make great connections at the boutique and enjoy seeing them often to keep the relationships. The photo on the right is from their mini red carpet and step & repeat wall. We can't wait to see the photos online.

On Thursday, Celebrity designers, Angela Dean and Fedor were being featured for their couture gowns in honor of the Golden Globes. We fell in love with some of the gowns and decided to share the fabulousness.

We even had a chance to meet with Designer Angela Dean. She was gracious enough to share how she got started and what celebrities she has worked with. We love such humble and talented people! Dean has been in the fashion industry for over 20 years, created her label DeanZign, and has dressed Oprah Winfrey, Patti Labelle, Queen Latifah, Katy Perry, and Paris Hilton. Here our 2 gowns we loved at the boutique.

Sorry, it's blurry! Designer Angela Dean & the red dress Paris wore for her fragrance photoshoot.

Cha Cha Cha!

How fabulous is this gown?

It's also the dress that Paris Hilton wore for her Can Can fragrance photo shoot.

Another Angela Dean gown we loved, is this little sexy number! I'm starting to see more of this trend: the long sleeve, mini sequined dress and I love it! All I need is a glamorous event to attend or make a trip to Vegas.

We didn't have a chance to meet with Designer Fedor, however we must show you this one amazing gown. The back and front are so equally amazing. Both sides wowed me and will make a statement from whichever way you walk. Again, love the many sequins and also, the cut out holes in the sleeves lined with pearls. All the details are so well thought out!

Designers of the Month

Posted by Erica Espana

Hey Everyone I am back from Recovery, and as promised I have been on the hunt for young new talented designers.

Lucky me I stumbled on two young Dallas hotties who own an amazing clothing line called The Ro Collection. These two brothers Romello and Roland started the company a few years ago in Dallas and are branching their way to the west coast! They started the line with sexy shirts for the ladies and swagged out shirts for the fellas,  and will soon venture into shoes. As a young fashion expert I love this line, they have something for any and everyone. These brothers are already doing their thing in Texas but are going to take the California by storm. Take my word this line is going to be the next must have for your closet! Stay tuned for my up close and personal interview with these two SINGLE hot designers, lets see if the know why everything is bigger in TEXAS!

In the mean time check out their website www.thecollectionro.com!!!

follow them on twitter as well...@RomelloTweets and @TheROCollection

Ultimate Shoe Decor

Posted by Erica Espana

So, I have to thank this month's issue of InStyle Magazine for this cool find! Dekkori is taking accessories to a whole new level. The Dekkori collection is a great way to spruce up your existing shoe collection. Founder and designer, Stephanie Kim, is the ultimate shoe fanatic and bought shoes like they were going out of style. So, she came up Dekkori which allowed her to revive own collection with added straps, bows, buttons, and wraps to fit in with the current and ever-changing trends. Best of all, it saved her from shelling out money for a new pair of shoes! You can mix and match on all your heels, add some bright tights, or create your own fashion statement!

What do you think?

Designer Bio: True Birds

Posted by Erica Espana

sisters

Heidi & Heather

We LOVE LOVE  True Birds. Don't know True Birds?? True Birds is an accessories line created and designed by sisters Heather and Heidi Palmer. They are fabulous and innovative designers and couldn't be sweeter! You can always catch us wearing pieces from the True Birds collection given to us by these inspiring ladies. Check out this amazing Q&A and get some insight in the lives of  the designers and business!

Erica & Ja'toi: How did you get into your field?

True Birds: We both have always had an artsy eye for fashion. Heidi was working in a marketing position at her last job and we both wanted a fun creative outlet. We both have always loved hair accessories because they help make your hair look fabulous in seconds. So, here we love every minute of it!

E&J: How did you officially start your business?

TB: We launched September 2008 with our first collection of headbands and a fun photoshoot in Balboa Park. Heidi handled the graphic design, and I handled the PR, we both work so well together and have different hats of responsibility we wear. We launched by sending out to some local boutiques and had some great response from the press

E&J: How does TrueBirds represent Heather and Heidi?

TB: We believe True Birds represents our personalities, the name itself has a story. We had a friend that used to call us “bird” because we were “flighty and fun”, and it stuck with us from that point one we always called each other bird. We believe True Birds represents our inner creativity and overall joy that we bring to each headband we make. Even Jerell Scott from Project Runway, whom we have collaborated with for his Spring Line said “you know when something is made with love”, and that is how we try and reflect ourselves through our accessories.

TrueBirds

True Beauties: 1. Gold Metallic Rose, $35  2. Buds of Chiffon, $30.75 3. Plush Plume, $28  4. Lavish Ebony, $20

E&J: What advice do you have for aspiring designers?

Never doubt yourself, you can do anything you want in life, there are no limits.  It takes great dedication, passion and willingness to work yourself into your dream. You can make it happen believe in yourself! It’s not easy long hours, tears, and fatigue  can result from working with drive and passion, but it’s definitely worth it when you achieve your dreams and goals.

E&J: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Continuing to grow our business together possibly branching into clothing and some other fun fashion avenues. We are both married so we also see some kiddies entering in our lives within 10 years which will be another fun adventure when the time comes.

Thank you Heather and Heidi!

Purchase the collection at Truebirds.com, Nordstrom, Fred Segal, and Henri Bendel to name a few!

Stylist bio: Brett McCall

Posted by JaToi Moore

Brett McCall

What if your job required traveling, shopping, partying and hanging out on photo shoots everyday? Sign me up right?  When Erica and I attended the Kress event I was privileged enough to meet one of the most amazing stylists in the business, Brett McCall. I got some insight tips for up and coming stylists, and even myself!

ballerina

Brett has been a stylist for over 15 years, although he was originally a publicist in New York. He has always loved shopping and fashion and decided a more creative outlet would be a better job for him. The best and worst part of his job he says is"I am by nature a creative person and there are so few fields where a person can be truly creative and appreciated for innovation and individuality, and the worst part, is trying to satisfy a client that doesn't know what they want and isn't confident enough to just let me and the rest of the team do our jobs."

gothic chic

He primarily does print work for Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, BeBe, Saatchi and dozens of smaller retailers and ad agencies. His greatest career accomplishment is seeing an AD he styled on a Billboard in Times Square. Being that he has been a professional in the business he was able to give a few pointers for those who want to enter the world of styling.

mail

His advice is "Lose the attitude".  This is not all about you.  There is a pecking order with the photographer at the top and the production assistant and the assistant stylist somewhere near the bottom.  You are part of a team.  What we really accomplish is based in large part on our ability to work with other people.  This is not a job for a prima donna or someone who has a hard time working with others. Each job you walk in and you are immediately part of a team with one goal, to produce the highest quality images.  Don't gossip about other people on the crew and don't burn bridges." Thanks Brett for the great advice!
